GO adds new channel – Calypso Music Television

GO have announced that they will be adding a new local channel on its FREE+ line-up – Calypso Music Television, as from Sunday, the 10th of May. The new channel will be added at no extra cost to the FREE+ TV package, which costs only €2.33 for a month. The station will be also available for free as part of the SILVER+ and GOLD+ TV packages, as well as part of GO Mobile’s streaming package.

The Broadcasting Authority recently announced that it granted a license to Calypso Media Communications Ltd to provide a digital terrestrial television broadcasting service. Calypso Music Television will broadcast exclusively on the GO TV network, and hence will be available to all GO customers on channel number 107. The new TV station will ride on the popularity of the already established Calypso Radio station.

Calypso Music Television, which is a brand new local TV station, will start broadcasting on the 10th of May and His Excellency Archbishop Mons Paul Cremona will be blessing the premises of the new TV station at around 4pm. The building will be open to the general public from that time onwards, during which the station goes on air.

The new station will be offering a number of educational, cultural and entertaining programmes, with local and international music being the principle element.

Calypso Music Television shall commence its broadcasts with the Calypso Breakfast Show aired daily between 8 and 11am, hosted by Twanny Scerri and Eleanor Cassar, respectively. The show will contain a number of informative slots, varying from current affairs, cultural events, sport activities, news headlines, music videos and much more.

Calypso Music Television will soon release its full programme schedule, one of which will be Calypso’s Total Request – a show which will be presented from a made-up radio studio – a first to be on Maltese TV. During the show, viewers may call-in or send SMS’s to the presenter requesting their favourite modern music video.

During the week, Calypso Music Television will air a number of different shows aimed for family viewing. Every Wednesday, Gertrude Borg Marks will present Calypso’s prime time programme – Karattri. The presenter shall be giving the viewers an insight look at Maltese theatre and drama where in each show, the viewer will meet one of Malta’s famous and loved actors from both the film, theatre and media fields. Karattri will feature a number of clips from movies produced locally and other theatre material.

Another show which will air every Thursday is Calypso’s Talk Time, presented by Angela Agius. The presenter together with the guests shall be discussing different subjects from all aspects of life. Viewers may also participate via SMS with any questions or queries about the subject discussed.

A new programme which will be giving local singers and bands an opportunity to perform a two-hour live session will be held every Friday, during the prime time programme – Calypso Jams.

A show with a difference and a first for local TV is Vibes Weekend hosted by Malta’s original Vibes DJ – Charles Fenech. This show will focus mainly on 80’s pop music videos and will surely serve as a commemoration to what was once the famous Vibes Discothèque.

Calypso Music Television is Malta’s first local television station with its main objectives being musical entertainment emphasising on promoting local music talent!
