A record daily figure for new Covid-19 cases is expected to be given later today, with over 400 being forecast. The previous highest number was 336 on the 2nd of March.
As of last Friday, Prof Charmaine Gauci said that the seven-day moving average of cases per day was 270, with the variant being blamed for the increase in cases.
In Gozo, up to last Friday there were 193 active cases, with 19 patients in the Gozo General Hospital, 4 in ITU.
The amendment to the Legal Notice on the mandatory use of medical or cloth face masks has now been published.
Originally published in October last year the Legal Notice gave details on the wearing of face masks and the exemptions. However, this had been put to the test over the weekend, with people being fined for removing their mask to eat outside during picnics etc.
The amendment to the above LN now clarifies that “(i) when necessary during the consumption of food or drink; or (j) when smoking lit tobacco products: Provided that in the cases mentioned in paragraphs (i) and (j), the temporary removal of face-masks shall not be permissible while a person is walking.”
