Two Gozitan organisations have been nominated for awards in this year’s Premju ghall-Arti.

They are, Schola Cantorum Jubilate for its Song Reborn in the category – Best Initiative during Covid-19 pandemic and the Victoria International Arts Festival Foundation for the Victoria International Arts Festival in the category – Best Initiative during Covid-19 pandemic.

This year’s edition of Premju ghall-Arti is set to recognise the resilience of the cultural and creative sectors, turning its focus on the outstanding work produced by artists and creatives during a time of increased challenges and difficulties.

10 nominees were announced for the two special awards and Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government José Herrera recognised Premju ghall-Arti as the “most prestigious artistic event in our cultural calendar as it celebrates the achievements of Malta’s cultural and creative sectors.”

Arts Council Malta Funding and Strategy Director Mary Ann Cauchi highlighted how the awards give recognition to individuals and organisations that have excelled in their contribution to the advancement of Malta’s cultural and creative sectors.

Ms Cauchi added that Arts Council Malta is excited to celebrate the local creatives, artists and technical staff who are contributing to the award-giving ceremony. This will truly be a celebration of our industry and its various operators.

It was explained that during this fourth edition, nominees are being recognised not only for the quality of the work but also their resilience, innovative approaches, and efforts to engage with the community despite the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a bid to recognise these achievements this special edition of Premju ghall-Arti will accord two competitive awards:

The Best Initiative during COVID-19 pandemic and the Best Production during COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, four non-competitive honours will also be awarded: The Honour for Lifetime Achievement, the Honour for Cultural Promoters, the Honour for Artistic Legacy, and the Ambassador of the Arts who retains the title for three years. The winner of each category will be announced on 7 April 2021.
