An Animal Rights Awareness campaign has been launched on keeping both domestic animals and those which are kept on farms.
The eleven videos, which will be promoted on Facebook, will be around 2 minutes each and will explain the roles of the Animal Welfare Directorate as well as the Veterinary Regulation Directorate (VRD). These videos will also promote the adoption of animals.
This was announced during a joint press conference by Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Animal Rights Anton Refalo and Commissioner for Animal Welfare Alison Bezzina.
Minister Refalo said that the Ministry works hand in hand with the Office of the Commissioner for Animal Welfare to collaborate with the police and the courts in joint work to enforce the law with a view to reducing the cases of animal abuse and neglect.
He spoke about the importance of further education on this sensitive subject so that the public are better informed about their responsibilities when raising an animal and how to keep animals.
He concluded by saying that in a modern society there must still be educational campaigns on a regular basis to ensure that people better understand the importance of respecting animal rights.
Animal Welfare Commissioner Alison Bezzina explained that cases of abuse, cruelty and neglect are usually the result of a lack of knowledge of how to raise animals. That is why the need was felt for this campaign to further educate the Maltese and Gozitan people, as well as advise on amendments to the law related to animal rights.

I guess flying animals don’t count.
We keep letting people butchering wild animals that fly every year for sport and hobbies, and politicians keep trying to convince us that they care for animals. All they care for is votes, by design.
Applause , Applause !!!
Wish everyone would like to see this – like you and me !!!
We need a ( minimum ) third party on Malta . Four would be better for all living Things .
Not 2 corrupt ones !
