Spacelab is shining a spotlight on Earth Hour for the third year running, they have organised a series of events and initiatives aimed at inspiring our next actions to safeguard our home planet.

Tonight the symbolic #switchoff takes place between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, not only in Gozo and Malta, but across the world.

All around the world Earth Hour 2021 events have had to be cancelled or shifted online. The same has happened here on Gozo – tonight was due to be the culmination of Spacelab’s Earth Hour Gozo + Fringe programme which has been running since January.

However, instead, Spacelab said that it is mapping out our islands’ #switchoff initiatives in an Earth Hour Map.

All you have to do to get on the map is add your own pin at www.earthhourgozo.com/earth-hour-map/

Spacelab said that it’s quick and easy. “Just add your town location, tick the lights you’re switching off and tell us something more about your plans to make a difference not just today, but every day.”

Already on the map are several local councils and regions, the Friendly School in San Lawrenz and many private residences across the island, from Qala to Gharb and across the channel in Malta.

The fringe programme started in January with a series of Earth Film Nights including “Home” by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and the groundbreaking “Kiss the Ground.”

One of the consistent themes of Earth Hour is #connect2earth and in February Spacelab invited the community to help plant 60+ trees at Dreams of Horses Farm in Xaghra, each tree representing each Earth Hour minute. This was kindly supported by Queen Mary, Malta Campus.

Spacelab concluded by saying that the “look forward to seeing you on the map this year, and in real life next Earth Hour.”
