Power cuts in many areas caused by damaged cable - EnemaltaUpdate – Enemalta said that its engineers and technicians overnight carried out urgent work to repair faults in Enemalta’s underground cable that caused a power cut in parts of Naxxar, Hal Gharghur, Mosta. and Lija.

In Gozo, the power went off for a brief moment at around 10.45pm, but came back immediately.

Supply had already been restored to some of the areas, because the distribution network it was possible to divert electricity from other sub-stations. In all localities, supply returned to normal shortly after on Wednesday morning, Enemalta said.

Investigations show that the damage to the underground cables was caused by a sharp variation in temperatures. Enemalta said that “repairs are ongoing and it is not ruled out that there may be short interruptions in the coming hours.”

In recent days, Enemalta said that it has seen a steep increase in demand for electricity due to the very hot weather. A spokesperson for a company said that “Enemalta has enough electricity supply to meet the demand.”

While Enemalta apologised for any inconvenience caused by this unforeseen outage, every effort is being made to restore the electricity supply back to normal as soon as possible.
