The number of new Covid-19 cases has shot up, with 55 new Covid-19 cases found in the past 24-hours, from the 2,668 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 2.06%. There were 6 recoveries and no new deaths registered.

The Department of Information, in a message on Facebook this morning, said that 78% of adults are now fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Health Minister Chris Fearne advised last week that they are aiming for 85% of the population to be fully vaccinated to achieve “herd immunity.”

Active cases are now at 159 in Malta and Gozo. The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 30,755 and there have been 30,176 recoveries and 420 deaths.

1,006,510 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.

696,858 doses of the vaccine have been administered up until yesterday. 344,666 people are now fully vaccinated.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 8th of July, it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 30,664 and the number of deaths showing is 420. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is now 14.38.

The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.

The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
