A spike in Covid-19 cases have been recorded overnight, with 179 new cases found from the 2,647 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 6.76%. There were 2 recoveries and no new deaths registered.

Active cases have now risen to 634 in Malta and Gozo. The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 31,240 and there have been 30,186 recoveries and 420 deaths.

1,018,448 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.

The number of vaccines administered has now at 706,857 up until yesterday. 350,338 people are now fully vaccinated.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 8th of July, it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 30,664 and the number of deaths showing is 420. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is now 14.38. .

The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.

The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
