Through an agreement worth €24,000 signed between the Ministry for Gozo and the Friends of the Sick and the Elderly in Gozo, this voluntary organisation will be able to provide twelve electric beds and five electronic hoists to assist the elderly and sick.
Minister for Gozo, Clint Camilleri, pointed out that, through the equipment that is offered, the elderly and the sick can continue to be cared for in their own homes, without the need for hospitalisation or being in a residential home to receive treatment.
Regarding this service, Minister Camilleri stated that, “I see it as beneficial for them, as they will be able to continue to be cared for by relatives or people who know them at home. It also allows them to live in the community in peace.”
President of the FSEG Paul Zammit, while thanking the Ministry for Gozo for this assistance, mentioned how every year they loan equipment out that helps the elderly and the sick in their daily life. Among the equipment offered with free loans are beds, crutches, wheelchairs and lifters.
Minister Camilleri concluded by saying that, “the social field in Gozo has always been given absolute priority and this is evidenced by the vital investments and collaborations that are taking place around the island. This is particularly the case for people with disabilities, the elderly, the sick, those in need of rehabilitation from addiction and others.”
