206 new Covid-19 cases recorded overnight, active cases rise to 1,642206 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 4,373 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 4,71%. There were 5 recoveries. This takes the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo up to 1,642.

Health authorities have advised that from the 235 cases reported yesterday, 178 were in the age group of 10-39. The average age of yesterday’s cases was 27.

A total of 17 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, up from 14 yesterday, of whom is in the ITU, the authorities said.

Authorities also said that no new deaths registered. The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 32,275 and there have been 30,213 recoveries and 420 deaths.

1,037,870 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.

The number of vaccines administered is now at 721,415 up until yesterday. 355,883 people are now fully vaccinated.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 15th of July, it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 31, 240 and the number of deaths showing is 420. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 has shot up to 122.05 from 14.38 last week, making us the 8th highest in the EU.

The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.

The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
