The Malta Medical Students’ Association (MMSA) has dissociated itself from the opinion of any medical students who have voiced their opposition to the Covid-9 vaccine.

In a statement, the Association reiterated its position in favour of vaccination, saying that “the overwhelming majority of MMSA’s 700+ members recognise the strong scientific evidence supporting the fact that Covid-19 vaccines are safe and efficacious tools which are key to fighting the current pandemic.”

The MMSA also pointed out that a large number of medical students have been assisting in the response to the pandemic by administering Covid-19 vaccines, and almost all medical students have been vaccinated themselves, and strongly urged members of the public to get vaccinated.

MMSA voiced its support to the stance of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery on the matter, which had acknowledged the right of students to express their personal views, however it did not reflect their position.

MMSA concluded by saying that it has also been publicly vocal on multiple occasions on the matter, showing support of vaccination through multiple social media campaigns and even the launch of a policy paper highlighting the importance of vaccination, and “debunking certain misconceptions.”
