111 new Covid-19 cases, with 36 hospitalised, 1 in ITU and 199 recoveries111 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 3,693 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 3.00%.

There have been 199 recoveries, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo to back below 2,000, at 1,972.

A total of 36 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, down from 33 yesterday. This number includes 1 in the ITU, which is 1 less than yesterday, Authorities said.

The average age of yesterday’s 95 cases was 33.

The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 34.201 and there have been 31,410 recoveries and 423 deaths.

1,087,183 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.

The number of vaccines administered is now at 755,655 up until yesterday. 379,016 people are now fully vaccinated.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 22nd of July, it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 32,616 and the number of deaths showing is 420. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 has shot up once again to 379.35 from 122.05 in the previous week, making us the 4th highest in the EU, Malta was the 8th highest last week.

The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.

The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
