St John the Baptist Square in Xewkija is closed on weekend evenings until Sunday, the 26th of September.
The aim is to create a safe, secure and enjoyable environment for all local residents, particularly children and is the initiative of the Xewkija Local Council, with the collaboration of the Ministry for Gozo.
The Council said that the village square will be free from traffic every Saturday and Sunday from 7.00pm till midnight.
The Xewkija Local Council appealed all drivers to avoid the village core, whilst encouraging all residents of the locality to visit the main square on foot or by bicycle.
