51 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 3,417 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 1.49%.

Authorities said that a total of 42 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, up from 40 yesterday. 4 of these patients are in the ITU, up from 3 yesterday.

There have been 118 recoveries, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo down to 741. The average age of yesterday’s 87 cases was 41.

The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 35,091 and there have been 33,525 recoveries and 429 deaths.

1,129,787 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.

The number of vaccines administered is now at 780,770 up until yesterday, meaning that the number of fully vaccinated people has now reached over 400,000 at 401,390.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 12th of August it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 34,439 and the number of deaths showing is 428. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is down to 207.36 from 354.28 in the previous week. Malta is now the 10th highest in the EU.

The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.

The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
