54 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 3,112 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 1.74%.
Authorities said that during the last 24 hours, a 62-year old woman and a 91-year old man have passed away while Covid-19 positive.
A total of 41 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, down from 43 yesterday. 3 of these patients are in the ITU, down from 5 yesterday.
There have been 57 recoveries, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo down to 604.
The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 35,434 and there have been 34,001 recoveries and 433 deaths.
1,146,206 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.
The number of vaccines administered is now at 786,015 up until yesterday, meaning that the number of fully vaccinated people has now reached 405,578.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 12th of August it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 34,439 and the number of deaths showing is 428. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is down to 207.36 from 354.28 in the previous week. Malta is now the 10th highest in the EU.
The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
