On the morning of the Solemnity of the Assumption, the Solemn Pontifical in the Cathedral of Gozo was led by Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops.

In his homily, Cardinal Grech, inspired by the process of ecclesial reflection that led to the declaration of the Assumption in 1950, shared an important reflection on the “synodal walk” to be launched in October by Pope Francis.

At the end of the Mass, the Bishop of Gozo Anton Teuma went to Cardinal Grech and addressed him with the following words:

“I am very pleased with the wonderful thought you shared with us this morning, from which we all wish to make a commitment to Pope Francis, represented in your person this morning before us: the commitment to truly be one Church – priests, religious and laity together… circulation of charisms, all together.

“The Church is not ours as priests, the Church belongs to no one, it is only the mystical Body of Christ made up of various charisms and gifts, which are all of us.

“This morning we would like to take with you this commitment: that we want to be a synodal Church not only in our Diocese, but also part of the universal Church, represented by you, you who are animating this so important and essential aspect of the Church of Jesus.

“We want to promise you that prayer will not just be a word but an action, a choice with a life commitment.”
