51 new Covid-19 cases with 53 recoveries, 36 in hospital, includes 2 in ITU

51 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 3,125 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 1.63%.
A total of 36 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, up from 32 yesterday. 2 of these patients are in the ITU.
There have been 53 recoveries overnight, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo to 641.
The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 35,653 and there have been 34,181 recoveries and 435 deaths.
1,156,019 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.
The number of vaccines administered is now at 789,540 up until yesterday, meaning that the number of fully vaccinated people has reached 408,010.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 19th of August it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 35,380 and the number of deaths showing is 431. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is down to 182.87.
The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
