49 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 3,249 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 1.51%.

Authorities said that during the last 24 hours, an 85-year old woman has passed away while Covid-19 positive.

There have been 54 recoveries overnight, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo down to 636.

A total of 32 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, up from 29 yesterday, 1 of whom is in the ITU, down from 2 yesterday.

The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 36,039 and there have been 34,567 recoveries and 440 deaths.

1,181,558 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.

The number of vaccines administered is now at 795,190 up until yesterday, meaning that the number of fully vaccinated people has reached 411,798.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 26th of August it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 35,831 and the number of deaths showing is 436. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is 180.54.

The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.

The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
