49 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 3,998 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 1.23%.

Authorities said that during the last 24 hours, a 69-year old woman and a 41-year old man have passed away while Covid-19 positive.

There have been 43 recoveries overnight, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo up to 723.

A total of 31 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, down from 33 yesterday, 2 of whom is in the ITU.

The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 36,475 and there have been 34,912 recoveries and 444 deaths.

1,208,855 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.

The number of vaccines administered is now at 799,148 up until yesterday, meaning that the number of fully vaccinated people is now 413,811.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 1st of September it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 36,123 and the number of deaths showing is 440. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is 144.39.

The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.

The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
