A number of Mini Open Libraries, commissioned by the Ghajnsielem Local Council, are to be placed in various outside spaces around the locality.
Education Minister Justyne, Caruana in the presence of the Ghajnsielem Mayor Kevin Cauchi and local council members, inaugurated this new concept on Friday morning.
Dr Caruana praised the Ghajnsielem Local Council for being ”so creative and innovative,” whilst also urging other Local Council to copy this ”brilliant idea.”
The Council explained that the concept behind these open libraries is to enhance the love of reading and combat illiteracy. The idea of book sharing is also being introduced, meaning that a book can be taken to read at home, while also leaving an exchange in its place for someone else to enjoy.
Primary school students read poems written by themselves to mark the occasion.
