Matthew Curmi has been named as the winner of this year’s Youths4Entrepreneurship Gozo Award.
The Gozo Business Chamber said that his idea titled ‘Gozo – Understanding its Nuclear Option’ gathered the most votes from the panel of experts, and apart from the Award, Matthew also received €500. To watch his winning pitch please click here.
Matthew proposes using nuclear reactors to generate power for the island of Gozo. He said that what is most exciting is that, due to its size, Gozo can actually be the demonstrator island for this technology.
It was explained that for those doubting the technology’s safety, it is reassuring, as well as surprising, to know that the World Health Organisation recognises nuclear power as the ”safest form of power there is.”
The Gozo Business Chamber thanked all other participants who made this year’s competition possible. ”Thank you for submitting your business proposals. Going on stage in front of a panel of experts and an audience is not easy, we truly hope that this event spurs you on to achieve bigger things in the future.”
The Chamber also thanked Agenzija Zghazagh, the Gozo Regional Development Authority, Europe Direct Gozo, BOV, and the Ministry for the Economy and Industry who collaborated with them for this year’s edition of the award.
Nuclear energy is indeed a very important vector of carbon-free, 24h 7/7 dependable electricity generation system.
Developing it in Gozo and Malta could give the country a complete independence for its electricity generation, and even make the country a net exporter to Sicily who is struggling with very expensive gas and coal.
