Souls & Saints – was a literary music evening held on Sunday at the Church of St. Paul Shipwrecked in Munxar, organised by the JP2 Foundation in full collaboration with Munxar Local Council.

The aim of this event was to commemorate all those who died during this pandemic. Mr. Alfred Grech and Mr. Alvin Scicluna read some literary excerpts related to the month of November by Prof Guze Galea, poems by Karol Wojtyla written in 1939, Fr. George Mercieca and Fr. Mattew Sultana.

This event was also a commemoration of the 40th anniversary from the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II in St. Peter’s Square, Vatican City, which took place on the 13th May 1981.

Dr. Lydia Buttigieg, on the harp with soprano Rosabelle Bianchi who performed various works including Clarke’s ‘Chaconne,’ Satie’s ‘Gymnopedie No1,’ Jenkins’ ‘Benedictus’ and Einaudi’s ‘Primavera.’

The soprano accompanied by the harp sang with sweetness: Tosti’s ‘Ave Maria,’ ‘La Vergine degli Angeli’ by the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, Faure’s ‘Pie Jesu,’ ‘Ti voglio star vicino’ by Bach, ‘Diehla go qalbi’ by Ortolani and Bach/Gounod’s ‘Ave Maria’.

At the end of the evening, the new Parish Priest of Munxar, Fr Anton Refalo, thanked the Local Council for the help given on such occasions in the presence of the Deputy Mayor Carmen Parnis, as well as to the two Maltese soloists, to those present and to the JP2 Foundation who had chosen his parish church to hold this November evening.
