The National Blood Transfusion Service expressed their thanks to the 39 people who called to donate blood in Gozo last Sunday.

For the last time this year, with the theme in mind of – this Christmas be an angel and a ray of light for others … donate blood – Gozitans are encouraged to please come forward and donate blood on Tuesday, the 28th of December, from 1pm to 5pm (last registration 5pm).

This will be followed by a session on Tuesday, the 11th of January, from 1pm to 5pm (last registrations until 5pm) at the Centre in Xewkija, and encourages those who are able to please attend

The centre is located at the Xewkija Clinic, in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club.

The Service said that it appreciates seeing all those who donate blood and takes this opportunity to ‘thank everyone who in one way or another over the past year has participated in this ongoing, humanitarian mission. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”

The Service reminds everyone that it is very important to always take your Identity Card, or Driving License or Maltese Passport and to drink plenty of water beforehand. Also, please encourage others to donate if possible.

Important notes

Those who have undergone the swab test, whether routine or due to travel, are asked to wait until a negative Covid-19 test result is given

As a general guideline, recipients of the Covid-19 booster vaccines or seasonal flu vaccine should wait 7 days after receiving the vaccine before going to donate blood.

If in the first 48 hours after vaccination, one does not have a fever or symptoms of illness, then donations may be allowed to be made earlier at the discretion of the Service doctors.
