The – GauLive – series of public events in full compliance with health regulations, will open this year’s 15th edition of Gaulitana: A Festival of Music, which yet again will be a phased and hybrid edition, the organisers said.

From the New World: A Symphonic Opening – is the first in the programme, on Saturday, the 5th of March, starting at 7.30pm.

The concert is being held at Gozo’s Teatru tal-Opra Aurora under the distinguished patronage of President George Vella, with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of the festival’s artistic director, Colin Attard.

The principal work being performed is Antonin Dvorak’s masterpiece and best-loved work, Symphony No. 9 in E Minor (From the New World).

The symphony’s seamless fusion of Indian, Afro-American, Bohemian and Western European idioms and forms makes it a perfect example of the synergy and unity required over all fronts and between the various “cultures” worldwide in order to overcome these troubled times and to assure a better future. Gaulitana said that it hopes that its “From the New World” will be a “guiding light.”

The organisers said that in view of the announcement of the general election, which might necessitate some re-scheduling, the full programme of “GauLive” events – which features a number of local and foreign artists and ensembles – will be communicated at a subsequent stage.
