The Planning Commission has today postponed for the second time in a row the decision on the “`monstrous” 125-unit complex in Sannat” by Gozitan developer Joseph Portelli, said Moviment Graffitti. The hearing was postponed to the 11th of March.
The organisation in a statement, said that this follows on from the last hearing, when the Planning Commission had asked the Executive Council for direction on the application, despite the PA’s own case officer saying that the application should be rejected due to breaches of various planning policies.
Moviment Graffitti insisted that the Executive Council is another body within the Planning Authority that has “no role in processing such applications.”
The organisation expressed its dismay after “at today’s hearing, the Planning Commission said that it wants the direction of the Executive Council, in case the case officer had made a mistake in the interpretation of the policy.”
It went on to say that “the Executive Board had not yet responded to this request of direction from the Planning Commission and therefore the hearing was again postponed.”
Moviment Graffitti highlighted that “Portelli and his colleagues want to build 73 apartments and 60 garages, just 300 metres away from the cliffs of Ta’ Cenc, one of the most beautiful and most precious and ecologically sensitive areas of the Maltese islands.”
“The building is part of a massive 125-apartment project that has been illegally split into a number of separate applications,” it said.
Moviment Graffitti argued that “instead of embracing and rejecting this obscene development, the Planning Commission is looking at what it can do to go against the case officer’s recommendation and endorse this monstrosity.”
On Monday, twelve organisations in a joint statement raised “serious concerns” about the “totally irregular processing” of application (PA/02087/21) which will add 73 apartments to create a `monstrous” 125-unit complex in Sannat.
They stressed that the Planning Authority’s “red-carpet treatment” for Gozitan builder Joseph Portelli “threatens” Sannat.
