Speaking at a political activity held in Nadur on Saturday evening, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech stated that a Nationalist Government wants the best conditions possible or Gozitan workers.
He said that in Gozo more than in Malta, “we have a situation of hundreds of workers who were told that they were given a job with the Government but are employed by contractors. My promise to these workers is clear, that no one will lose their place with a Government led by me, but that they will work directly with the Government, and the pay which is currently going to the the contractor who employs you, would be added to your pay instead.”
Bernard Grech stressed that Gozo has “always been dear to the Nationalist Party. Gozo has always enjoyed a Nationalist Government and will do so again with a Nationalist Party in Government.”
The Leader of the Nationalist Party stressed that effective and efficient accessibility between Malta and Gozo is a priority, especially in view of the double insularity that disadvantages Gozo and Gozitans.
“And because the Nationalist Party cares, we must ensure that accessibility is no longer an obstacle and thus improve the quality of life of the Gozitan people. All this can be done if a balance is struck between excellent accessibility and measures that are sustainable and responsible,” he said.
Speaking about the health sector in Gozo, Bernard Grech said that a Nationalist Government “would immediately stop the privatisation of the only hospital in Gozo and would no longer be in the hands of Steward, and instead would carry out a massive capital programme for the development of a new 400 bed General Hospital in Gozo.”
