€1,700,000 has been invested in new Civil Protection equipment “to provide greater protection for all,” the government has said.

In collaboration between the Civil Protection Malta and Sicily, together with the Universities of Malta, Palermo and Catania, an investment was made co-financed with European funds of €590,000 in preparation in case of a tsunami between Malta and Sicily.

Minister for Home Affairs and National Security, Byron Camilleri explained that the Civil Protection Department is increasingly being prepared to offer more protection in many forms of possible disruption.

Four rescue vehicles (RV4) have also been inaugurated with an investment of €1,100,000. These vehicles have different features in cases of rescue or traffic accidents and are equipped with machinery which will enable the Civil Protection workers to assist those who are in danger on cliffs etc, or for anyone trapped in vehicles.

To these were added three other SUVs, a dinghy, two large vans capable of carrying at least twenty-four people and three towable trailers equipped with tools so that prompt assistance can be provided, and workers would have the including provision for up to seven consecutive working days.

The Minister said that investments in the Civil Protection Department will continue “with the main goal of making our country safer, and to prepare the Civil Protection workers more and more for when unforeseen disasters arise.”
