A 28-year old man was arraigned in the Gozo Court by Inspector Josef Gauci on Monday, accused of slightly injuring three police officers and drug possession.

The incident happened on Sunday evening when the police were called to stop an argument in Independence Square, Victoria, Gozo.

The argument happened during the festivities taking place outside the Labour Club to celebrate winning the election.

Police said that the man, aged 28 and from Zebbug, Gozo, was ordered to stop by a Sergeant and two Police Constables and after first insulting them, he then attacked them.

The man resisted arrest but police said that they “still managed to detain him,” and following a search he was found in possession of a substance suspected to be cocaine.

The accused admitted to the charges and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment suspended for one year together with a fine of €4,000.
