Moviment Graffitti attended today’s Planning Authority (PA) hearing for yet another Sannat development near the Ta’ Cenc Cliffs – this time for stables.

The organisation explained that the stables being proposed by the developer are very close to the 124 apartments by Joseph Portelli, that have already been approved by the Planning Authority, after being “illegally fragmented into three separate applications.”

Moviment Graffitti stated that it has “reason to believe that the applicant for these stables is not the real owner of the site. Research has found that the land belongs to Excel Investments Limited – owned by Joseph Portelli.”

The organisation pointed out that, this means that this separate application for stables “is, in actual fact, yet another part of Portelli’s mega-project in the Sannat.”

During the meeting, the organisation said that several activists outlined how works in the area had already started – including rebuilding of rubble walls and extension of roads.

Moviment Graffitti claimed these illegal works have taken place on a Natura 2000 site and a Special Area of Conservation.

It said that the Planning Authority has now asked the applicant’s architect to – clarify the ownership of the land in question and verify on site whether there are existing illegalities, as claimed by activists during the hearing.

The case was deferred to the 17th of May.
