Malta Cafe Scientifique is announcing its next event which will be on – 3D Printing in Structural Engineering.

They explained that understanding how architectural designs fare in the real world has been a focus of engineers for millennia. Traditional methods required tedious calculations to come up with the best structural design, known as “structural optimisation.”

“Even though this is now accomplished with computer software, we still rely on manpower and human-operated machinery to build the structure,” said the organisers.

Dr Jeanette Mireille Muñoz Abela will explain how implementing the concept of 3D printing could allow structures to be designed electronically and built robotically.

This means that such a technique can be a revolutionary alternative to the status quo making it more sustainable and affordable.

Malta Cafe Scientifique are inviting the public to join them on Wednesday, the 13th of April at 7:00pm at Valletta’s St. James Cavalier (Spazju Kreattiv) to delve into this exciting topic.
