The first edition of the Bicycle Festival – a day of two-wheels fun with a range of activities for all the family, is being organised by the Ghajnsielem Local Council with the support of the Ministry for Gozo.

This event will be the first of its kind in Gozo and will certainly attract bicycle enthusiasts from all over the island while providing a unique experience of fun and competition.

Festa Roti will be held within the picturesque locality of Ghajnsielem, the square will host a number of activities for both BMX and Mountain Bikes with a designated area for BMX ramps and an Urban Mountain bike race course featuring twists, turns and all sorts of obstacles for both beginners and experienced riders. Both professionals and beginners are welcome!

The Council explained that the aim for this event is first and foremost to encourage the use of bicycle both as a sport and also as a means of commuting.

The Ghajnsielem Local Council has already built a pump track to encourage children to use the bike as a sport whilst in summer, the village centre is closed as a pedestrian-area only zone for several days to encourage residents to use alternative means of transport.

This event is being held in collaboration and with the assistance of local organisation R.U.S.T (Riders United Standing Together) together with Goodcleanfun and the MMBA (Malta Mountain Bike Association).

Festa Roti will take place this Saturday, the 23rd of April, from 11am till 4pm. The event will take place in Pjazza Madonna ta’ Loretu, Pjazza 10 ta’ Dicembru, Chambray street in front of the main clubs, Ta’ Passi (Bethlehem f’Ghajnsielem) and the Ghajnsielem Pump Track.

“See you all next Saturday. Don’t forget to bring your helmets!”
