Industrial producer price index up by 1.6% in April

Provisional estimates show that when comparing April 2009 to the corresponding month last year, the industrial producer price index of the sampled enterprises edged up 1.6 per cent.
Monthly changes
In April 2009, compared with the previous month, producer prices in total industry decreased by 4.1 per cent.
Prices in the Domestic market registered a drop of 14.3 per cent in the Energy Sector, a 1.2 per cent decline in the Capital Goods sector, and a 0.9 per cent increase in the Intermediate Goods sector.
Prices in the eurozone market declined by 0.5 per cent in the Intermediate Goods sector, whilst an increase of 0.3 per cent was registered in the Capital Goods sector. In the non-eurozone market, the main change was an increase of 3.9 per cent in the Consumer Non-Durables sector. Capital Goods increased by 0.1 per cent, whilst a decrease of 0.4 per cent was registered in the Intermediate Goods sector.
Annual changes
When comparing April 2009 to the corresponding month last year, producer prices for the Domestic market registered increases for all Main Industrial Groupings (MIGs), except for the Intermediate Goods and the Capital Goods sectors.
In the eurozone export market, decreases were registered for the Intermediate Goods and the Capital Goods sectors. Increases were recorded in the Consumer Non-Durables sector. In the non-eurozone export market, increases were reported for all Main Industrial Groupings, except for the Consumer Durables sector, which remained stable.
