Renewed push for elderly to take up invitation for second booster shotNext week, the Health Department will be sending out new immunisation appointment dates to 65+ residents who missed their first appointment for the second Covid vaccine booster dose.

Health Minister made the announcement in a tweet on Monday, adding that the Omicron XE variant has driven the rise in community Covid transmission.

Dr Fearne stressed that it “underlines the importance of maintaining high levels of immunity.”

The second booster is offered for free to everyone over the age of 65, however with a return to normality across the islands, there was some vaccine hesitancy, with a number of invitations to attend appointments not taken up.

The number of daily cases has been rising over the past days with 315 recorded on Sunday and a positivity rate of 24.92%. Covid tests carried out at home are not included in the figures which are issued each day.
