San Lawrenz Local Council have announced that they have been informed that the Azure Window has been placed in the final eleven in it’s category.

The Azure Window was competing against another 440 different sites around the world. These 440 were divided into categories. The voting was open until the 7th of July.

The votes have now been counted and as a result the Azure Window has been classified as one of the 77 of the 7 categories that were competing.

The next step will be on the 21st of July, when a panel of experts will announce the 28 that will once again be posted on the site www.new7wonders.com for the public to vote.

The San Lawrenz Local Council said that they were very satisfied with the success so far and thanked all the Maltese and Gozitans for their genuine support for this initiative.

San Lawrenz Mayor, Noel Formosa said that this triumph is for the whole population of Malta and Gozo and also for tourism in our islands. "We never thought that our input could produce this result, but we always believed that we could get there and we now see the results that we worked for."
