During the recent Gharb Gozo International Conference, H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca spoke about Dar Il-Kantuniera, which is situated in the heart of Gharb.

The Dar il-Kantuniera project is a collaboration between The Malta Trust Foundation, the Mental Health Association Gozo and the Ministry for Gozo.

It seeks to prepare people with mental health challenges in returning to their community while raising awareness on this topic in order to reduce the stigma.

Opened in October last year, it was the first home on the Maltese Island offering services in the field of mental health, including accommodation for anyone with mental health challenges.

Rent for the premises is paid by the Ministry for Gozo, as well as covering the cost of maintenance and cleaning. Security cameras are also to be installed at the home.

Wages for those employed at the home is paid by the Malta Trust Foundation.

The Foundation also collaborates with the Gozo Mental Health Association on the running of the residence and the implementation of a therapeutic programme for residents.
