Nadur 7th Delicata classic wine festival '09Nadur Local Council have announced that for the seventh consecutive year, following the wine festival in Valletta, Delicata in conjunction with Nadur Local Council will be taking its wine festival to the viticultural heart of Gozo, Nadur, from the 4th to the 6th of September 2009.

Once again this sleepy, idyllic Gozitan village will come alive as the wine festival gets underway at the Gnien il-Kunsill.

The festival will open at 7.00pm and the last wines will be served at 11.30pm and the event will be closing at midnight, there will be live entertainment every evening.

Over twenty quality Gozitan and Maltese wines will be available. People who wish to try the wines need only purchase a souvenir wine glass, which is theirs to keep. Then just show the correct coloured wristband (there will be a different colour each night) and present the glass at any wine stand and visitors can try as many wines, as often as they like.

There will also be a number of food stalls offering some delicious foods like suckling pig, oriental dishes, pasta, rabbit etc. There is also a seated dining area, called ‘The Channel View’ grill.

We’ve been lucky enough to have been in Gozo for this wine festival for the last few years and have to say, really enjoyed the event.

Having lived in Spain when i was growing up,(some years ago now!!)i still get that family sense of being with these festivals, from the wine tasting, the food and the live entertainment during the celebrations, something that would sadly not be possible in the UK due to the sad deterioration of family values, and the minority who spoil it for the majority.

I am saddened to see that the Festival has now moved to September, when all you read is that Malta and Gozo’s Tourist trade has been badly hit with the recession, and tourists deciding to go elsewhere.

This i believe is a missed opportunity, yes i know it is for the community but i have also seen many tourists at the festival with children and this year there will probably be no British families enjoying this event as our children will be back at school.

Is it possible that next year, the organisers can look at a date within the holidays? As I am sure the summer break for European Children finishes by the end of August.

We will be over mid August and look forward to seeing family and friends again. We are looking forward to the break, the friendly atmosphere in Gozo, the good food and all the Feasts!!

      Regards

      Darron
