Moviment Graffitti said that it has objected to yet another application linked to Gozitan developer Joseph Portelli and his partners for an enormous 14-storey hotel that will “ruin Xlendi bay.”

This is the second application connected to the same project, and Moviment Graffitti were already present at the first hearing of PA/04587/20, in which the Planning Authority completely disregarded the objectors’ comments.

After the hearing in January last year, the NGO stated that “this decision was justified on the grounds that the applicant is only applying for the demolition of the current site. The second phase of the application, concerning the construction of a huge 14-storey hotel, is not relevant at this stage and any objections made in this regard are invalid. Everyone knows that this is a laughing stock, and that the approval of the first phase will pave the way for the approval of the second phase.”

PA/04587/20 proposed the first phase of a project for the demolition of Hotel Xlendi and the subsequent excavation of the site.

Moviment Graffitti argued that, “this enormous development will entirely ruin the surrounding areas, impacting residents’ quality of life and will destroy natural surroundings. It will also entirely devastate Xlendi and the touristic experience within the area.”

Objections are open until tomorrow, Friday, the 30th of September by sending an e-mail to representations@pa.org.mt and write ‘PA/05500/22’ as the subject.
