Earlier today, the PA’s Planning Commission sent back to the drawing board a large residential project comprising of 61 parking spaces and the construction of 40 apartments and 11 penthouses in Triq il-Qortin in Nadur.

In a statement on Friday evening, the PA said that while noting that following various representations the original proposal was reduced in size, the Planning Commission remarked that the “project’s proportions and design were still not congruent with its surroundings.” In today’s sitting, the Commission expressed its opinion that for the project to be considered the height of the proposed project needs to be reduced to keep the building in harmony with its surroundings.

Notwithstanding that the architect presented revised plans after the first session on the application, the Commission said that it requested a further reduction in the overall massing and to introduce more terracing.

The Commission also called on the architect to scale down the sides of the building to bring the proposed edifice in line with the terraced fields while respecting the area’s topography.

Furthermore, the Commission requested the case officer to verify the correctness of the submitted photomontages.

The PA stated that “the proposed Nadur project lies within the development zone since at least 1998 according to the Temporary Provision Schemes of 1998, and has a proposed setback of 3m from the ODZ boundaries along its side.”

A decision on this application is scheduled for December 3rd.
