Jum Ghawdex or Gozo Day is marked on the 28th of October every year and commemorates one of the most famous chapters in Gozo’s history.
That was of course the capitulation of the French in Gozo on the 28th of October 1798, under the leadership of the Gozitan Archpriest Saverio Cassar. The French stay in Gozo lasted only 141 days.
The Gozo Region said that this year it wanted to do something practical to celebrate this day and have therefore worked on an initiative that will start from next month.
With this in mind, the Gozo Region will be approaching secondary schools and the 6th Form in Gozo to ask each student to write an: Idea for Gozo.
These ideas will then be collected and presented to the Mayors at the next Regional Council meeting.
The Mayors will choose the best ideas they have come up with for their locality and start implementing them during the coming year. This will also include the active participation of the students who came up with them.
“As a Region we are ensuring that our young people have an active part in the locality in which they live and how together we can create a better Gozo, the Gozo Region said.
“Gozo of the future – This is an Idea for Gozo.”
