Hibernians FC are the winners of the BOV Super Cup 2022/2023 beating Floriana 5-4 after a penalty shootout to lift the coveted trophy.
The Super Cup match, for the first time in its history was played at the Gozo Stadium, reaching new audiences and raising the profile of the game, the organisers said.
The BOV Super cup pitted last season’s BOV Premier League Champions Hibernians against Izibet FA Trophy Winners Floriana.
With both teams failing to to find the back of the net during both regular and extra time, the match went to penalties with both teams scoring their first 4 penalties. Oualid el Hasni saw his penalty saved by Ibrahim Kone, who then stepped up to take his team’s last penalty and did not disappoint.
The BOV Super Cup was presented to the winners by Ernest Agius, Chief Officer Operations at Bank of Valletta and Bjorn Vassallo, President of the Malta Football Association.
Bank of Valletta said that it is a main supporter of the Malta Football Association “through its commitment towards good health and wellbeing through sports of the Maltese population.”
