An international celebration was held for the twelveth time in the Village Parish Square of Qala. This ecumenical, socio-cultural event was entitled "Gozo International Celebration – Festa Edition," marking the theme "Give Peace a Chance."

The celebration was a welcoming occasion for all foreign nationals residing in or visiting Gozo. Taking part were the Ite ad Joseph Band, Menhir Qala Folk Group, violinist Joseph Chetcuti, pianist Ann Marie Chetcuti, sopranos Ruth Portelli and Patricia Buttigieg and the Sunnyside Folk Ensemble.

The programme commenced with an address by the host of the event, the Qala Parish Priest and Chair of the GIC, Canon Dr. Joseph Zammit. Also present was Anthony Caruana, one of Malta’s established artists.

This event originated from the desire of Pope Benedict XVI to bring different Christian faiths closer.
