Minister announces that more government work is to be based in Gozo

The Minister for Gozo, Dr. Anton Refalo has announced that more personnel working in the public sector in Malta will start operating from Gozo staffing various government departments .

The Ministry said it is committed to continue to generate mork work in Gozo, this commitment was taken very seriously and the results are already being seen, in fact during the first year and a half in the term of this Government there has already been an increase of 38 new workers.

The Minister gave an overview to explain how 22 workers had been transferred to various tax-related Departments and announced that the VAT Department , the Inland Revenue and Customs are to be combined into one unit.

The Minister recalled how in September last year the new E- Residence office had been serving as a one stop shop for the needs of foreign residents in Gozo, this unit also created three new jobs, and other workers have also been transferred to the Department of CPD, the Public Registry and the ETC.

The Minister went on to announce that preparations are well underway for a new Office of Statistics in Gozo, this office will collate and analyze various information related to economics, business, tourism, culture and energy consumption, initially the office will employ six people.

It is also intended that in the near future that the Bank of Valletta will increase its its operation here, thereby creating a need for more bank employees to work in Gozo, Dr Refalo added.

These initiatives along with other initiatives such as the creation of new jobs in the private sector and also through foreign direct investment will continue to fulfill a key promise of the Government, the Minister concluded.

      The establishment of an Animal Welfare Department facility on Gozo would also create jobs for Gozitans as well as ensuring that the stray and abandoned animals of Gozo are treated equally as well as those on Malta.
