€5,062,415 was collected during the 12-hour fundraising telethon L-Istrina – held on Boxing Day at the Sports Complex in Kirkop and the Villa Rundle Gardens in Victoria, Gozo.

Boxing Day is now synonymous with this annual charity fundraising event – a feast of generosity and solidarity.

The event is held to raise money in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund, to be used for those who are less fortunate. Last year it raised €5,845,000.

The 12-hour fundraiser was broadcast on all national television stations.
