The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses said that it has suspended all Industrial Directives from tomorrow at 7am and will call an Extraordinary General Meeting to present the Sectoral Agreement offered by the Government.

The Council of the MUMN said in a statement that it will call an Extraordinary General Meeting for Nurses and Midwives to present the Sectoral Agreement offered by the Government to them “so that they themselves can decide whether it is acceptable or not.”

The MUMN went on to say that the Government kept “burying its head in the sand and does not want to find a solution to this issue.”

The union added that the Government is even describing this package as “strong proposals” and “will give nurses the best conditions they have ever had.”

“Now it will be up to the nurses and midwives themselves who decide about this,” the union said.

The MUMN concluded by saying that “the Government is content with having a fragile health system rather than strengthening and motivating the Nurses and Midwives in their work with the patient. It is clear that the Government has closed the door in the face of Nurses and Midwives.”
