Over 158,000 outbound tourist trips were made during first quarter

According to the latest data from the National Statistics Office, outbound tourist trips from January to March reached 158,180, this was up from 88,196 recorded during the same quarter last year.
Total nights spent amounted to 1,082,039 nights, which was an increase on last year when the figure stood at 654,094.
Italy remained the most popular destination with a share of 35.4%.
90,851 outbound tourist trips were undertaken for holiday purposes, followed by 43,664 trips for visiting friends and relatives.
The majority of guest nights (54.9%) were spent in non-rented accommodation establishments.
The NSO noted that total expenditure by outbound tourists between January and March surpassed €131.6 million, equivalent to an average €832 per person.
