Two The Diocese of Gozo has said in a statement that the management of Dar Arka has suspended two carers after reports in the previous days of “physical abuse” on a resident.

The management of Dar Arka passed all the information to the Agenzija Sapport and the Social Care Standards Authority, as well as the Police, to establish the fact of the case, the Diocese said.

The Diocese of Gozo stated that it has appointed a disciplinary board so that the necessary steps can be taken. The case was also reported to the Safeguarding Commission of the same Diocese.

Inclusion Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli, confirmed the action taken. Writing on a Facebook post, she said that Agenzija Sapport and the Social Care Standards Authority had received “confidential reports about alleged abuse by two carers on a disabled person at Dar Arka in Gozo.”

“Immediately the Social Care Standards Authority launched an investigation in order to establish the facts.” The case was passed to the Police with the necessary investigations now underway,” the Minister said.

She added that “at present, the two carers have been suspended from performing their duties.”

The Arka Foundation, which is based in Ghajnsielem, is a voluntary, non-governmental organisation that promotes the welfare of people with special needs and their families.
