”So far no Master Plan for Comino has been submitted to the authorities,” Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri has said.

The Minister was replying to a Parliamentary Question from Opposition MP Chris Said, who had asked if the Master Plan had been started, when it was planned to be concluded, what actions had been taken and what money had been spent for 2022 and 2023 so far.

Minister Camilleri in his reply also said that, “discussions in relation to a Comino Master Plan take place from time to time, some of these are with the respective Ministries.”

Meanwhile, environmental organisations, Ghajnsielem Local Council and more than 13,500 individual objectors have spoken out against the proposed Comino Hotel and Bungalows project by the Hili Group, which it said would comprise of “71 suites and 19 serviced bungalows, and will feature a spa, dining spaces and one mini shop of 39 square metres.”

Only last week, activist group Moviment Graffitti highlighted the encroachment by rental deckchair operators on garigue land close to the Blue Lagoon. It pointed out that even though ERA officers had been notified, ”no action had been taken.”

Last summer protests took place on Comino with the public and organisations to express their anger at authorities inaction towards the over-commercialisation of the Blue Lagoon. They put forward their demands for immediate action to stop the damage.
