Tiffin Girls’ School Senior Choir from the UK performed a recital of sacred music on Sunday at Saint Margaret Parish Church Sannat.
The concert took place on the initiative of the Pope Saint John Paul Cultural Foundation with the full cooperation of the Sannat Local Council. They also gave a performance in Valletta on the previous evening.
The choir was directed by Mro. Angus Meryon and accompanied on the piano by Miss Backy.
An appreciative audience listened to the choir perform works by composers John Rutter, Daley, Barber, Casals, Whitacre, Copland Gjeilo, Bernstein, Chilcott and Head.
The student Yalana sang ‘Tu lo sai’ by Torelli, Carina sang ‘Vieni, vieni o mio diletto’ by the Italian composer Don Antonio Vivaldi while Anna performed ‘Where you walk’ by George Frederick Handel.
During the concert, four dedications were made – to the Archpriest of the Parish Can Michael Curmi, to Mons Lawrenz Sciberras on the occasion of his priestly Ordination and to two Gozitan priests who died during the week, Monsignor Paul Cardona from the Sannat parish and Mons Guzeppi Gauci from the Cathedral parish.
Members of the choir have recently appeared in musical theatre productions, carol services at local churches and regular large-scale events at school. They have also performed for HRH Prince Edward and they sang at a local Coronation Service in May for King Charles III.
