Nominations are now open for another edition of the Animal Honours Awards, with the ceremony expected to take place next October.
This is an opportunity to not only celebrate our four-legged friends and our feathered friends, giving them an opportunity to shine, but also to acknowledge the persons involved in all aspects of creating animal welfare awareness and those that live it on a daily basis.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo said, “We have always believed in the importance of showing appreciation to all those who work tirelessly every day to ensure that they always put the protection of animals.”
He added that, “with regards to the proper protection of animals we are continuing to educate, in particular our children, so that they always take care of the animals that are man’s greatest friend.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Protection Alicia Bugeja Said stated that, “This ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate the zeal and determination of every volunteer, official and individual who is somehow involved in the protection of animals.”
The Commissioner for Animal Protection Alison Bezzina explained that after the nominations come in from the public, there will be a panel that will review the nominations and choose the best three candidates in each category.
She went on to explain that towards the end of July, the nominations chosen by the board will be announced again, and the public will be able to vote for their favourite nominations. Nominations close on the 19th of July.
The final winners with the most votes will be awarded on World Animal Day in October.
