The number of claims with respect to non-fatal accidents decreased by 102, or 8.8% in the first half of the year when compared to January-June 2022, the National Statistics Office said.
There was one fatal accident reported during the first six months of 2023. During the same period last year there were nine.
The administrative records show that 1,062 persons were involved in a non-fatal accident at work during this same period.
Almost one third of those involved in an accident at work were absent from work for three days or less.
The NSO noted that the largest share of accidents at work involved persons working in elementary occupations. This was followed by craft and related trades workers. 29.6% of the accidents involved pensions in the 35-44 age bracket.
The NSO also said that the “vast majority” of those involved in a non-fatal accident at work were Maltese (72.3%).
